How to publish a website to Google in Google Search Console

Table of Contents

If you’ve built your website or location-based service pages with Suburb Stack, the final step to getting them found is telling Google about them. The best way to do this is through Google Search Console (GSC) – Google’s free tool for indexing and monitoring your site’s performance.

Step 1: Sign in to Google Search Console

Go to search.google.com/search-console and log in with your Google account. If you don’t already have a GSC account, you can create one in minutes.

Step 2: Add Your Website Property

  • Click “Add Property”.

  • Choose Domain (recommended) if you want to track your whole site, or URL Prefix if you only want to track a specific section.

  • Enter your domain (e.g., yourwebsite.com) and click Continue.

Step 3: Verify Ownership

Google needs to confirm that you own the website. Common verification methods include:

  • DNS Verification (recommended) – Add a TXT record in your domain registrar.

  • HTML File Upload – Upload a file Google provides to your site’s root directory.

  • HTML Tag – Add a meta tag to your site’s <head> section.

(If you’re using Suburb Stack, our onboarding team can guide you through this step.)

Step 4: Submit Your Sitemap

A sitemap helps Google discover all your pages faster.

  • Go to “Sitemaps” in the GSC sidebar.

  • Enter your sitemap URL (e.g., yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml) and click Submit.

  • If you’re using Suburb Stack, your sitemap is automatically generated for you.

Step 5: Request Indexing

If you’ve just launched your site or added new pages:

  • Go to URL Inspection in GSC.

  • Paste your page URL and click Request Indexing.

  • This prompts Google to crawl your page faster.

Step 6: Monitor Your Performance

Once your site is indexed, you can use GSC to:

  • Track clicks, impressions, and average rankings.

  • Check for crawl errors.

  • See which keywords are bringing you traffic.
