Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a free tool from Google that lets you add and manage tracking codes on your website without having to edit the code directly.
If you’re using Suburb Stack, GTM makes it easy to install Google Analytics, conversion tracking, and other marketing tags across all your suburb-specific service pages.
Step 1: Sign In to Google Tag Manager
Go to Google Tag Manager and sign in with your Google account.
Step 2: Create a New Account
-
Click “Create Account”.
-
Enter your Account Name (usually your business name).
-
Select your Country.
Step 3: Set Up a Container
-
In the Container Name field, enter your website domain (e.g.,
yourwebsite.com). -
Under Where to Use Container, select Web.
-
Click Create.
Step 4: Accept the Terms of Service
Review Google’s terms, tick the agreement box, and click Yes.
Step 5: Install GTM on Your Website
After creating the container, Google will give you two pieces of code:
-
Head Code Snippet – paste this as high as possible in your
<head>section. -
Body Code Snippet – paste this immediately after your opening
<body>tag.
If you’re using Suburb Stack, you can simply paste your GTM container ID (format: GTM-XXXXXXX) into your tracking settings, and we’ll handle the rest – no manual coding required.
Step 6: Publish Your Container
Once installed, go back to GTM and click Submit to publish your container.
Step 7: Test Your Installation
You can confirm GTM is working by:
-
Using Tag Assistant (Chrome extension).
-
Visiting your website and checking that GTM is detected.
