How to Create a Google My Business Profile

Table of Contents

A Google My Business (GMB) profile – now called Google Business Profile – is essential for any local business. It helps you appear in Google Maps, local search results, and the “3-Pack” listings at the top of Google searches.

If you’re using Suburb Stack to generate location-based service pages, pairing them with a fully optimised Google Business Profile can dramatically increase your visibility and leads.

Step 1: Sign In to Google Business Profile Manager

Step 2: Add Your Business

  • Click “Add your business to Google”.

  • Enter your business name exactly as it appears in the real world.

  • Select your business category (e.g., Plumber, Electrician, Cleaning Service).

Step 3: Choose Your Business Type

  • Storefront / Physical Location – If customers visit your business.

  • Service Area Business – If you go to customers (e.g., trades, cleaners). You can enter multiple service areas (perfect if you’re targeting suburbs built in Suburb Stack).

Step 4: Enter
Your Location or Service Areas

  • If you have a physical location, enter your address.

  • If you service customers at their location, list your service areas (cities, suburbs, regions).

Step 5: Add Contact Information

  • Add your phone number and website URL.

  • If you’re using Suburb Stack, link to your main domain so customers land on your optimised pages.

Step 6: Verify Your Business

Google needs to confirm you’re a real business. Verification methods include:

  • Postcard by Mail (most common) – Google sends a code to your address.

  • Phone Call or SMS (available for some businesses).

  • Email Verification (available for some businesses).

Step 7: Optimise Your Profile

Once verified, make your listing as complete as possible:

  • Upload a logo and high-quality photos.

  • Write a clear, keyword-rich business description.

  • Add services and products.

  • Set business hours.

  • Generate reviews from customers.

Step 8: Keep It Updated

Regularly update your profile with:

  • New photos.

  • Google Posts (special offers, news, events).

  • Updated hours and service areas.

  • Reply to reviews.
