Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is Google’s latest analytics platform, designed to give you detailed insights into how people interact with your website.
If you’re using Suburb Stack, GA4 is the perfect tool to measure how your suburb-specific service pages perform – from traffic sources to conversions.
Step 1: Sign In to Google Analytics
Go to Google Analytics and sign in with your Google account.
Step 2: Create an Account
-
Click “Admin” (gear icon in the lower-left corner).
-
In the Account column, click “+ Create Account”.
-
Enter your account name (e.g., Your Business Name).
-
Configure data sharing settings as you prefer.
Step 3: Set Up a Property for GA4
-
In the Property column, click “+ Create Property”.
-
Enter your property name (e.g., Main Website).
-
Select your reporting time zone and currency.
-
Click Next to add your business details like industry category, business size, and usage intentions.
Step 4: Configure Your Data Stream
-
Choose Web (for your website).
-
Enter your website URL – for Suburb Stack users, this should be your main domain.
-
Enter a stream name (e.g., Main Website Data Stream).
-
Enable Enhanced Measurement to automatically track actions like scrolls, outbound clicks, and form submissions.
Step 5: Get Your Measurement ID
Once you create the web data stream, Google will provide a Measurement ID (format: G-XXXXXXXXXX).
Copy this ID – you’ll use it to connect GA4 to your website.
Step 6: Install GA4 on Your Website
-
If using WordPress: Install a plugin such as “GA Google Analytics” or “Site Kit by Google” and paste in your Measurement ID.
-
If using Suburb Stack: Paste your Measurement ID directly into your tracking settings in the Suburb Stack dashboard – no coding required.
-
If using Google Tag Manager: Create a new GA4 configuration tag and publish it.
Step 7: Verify Your Setup
-
In GA4, go to Reports > Realtime.
-
Visit your website in a new browser tab.
-
You should see your own visit appear in the real-time feed, confirming that tracking is working.
